Situated just outside of Pretoria on the La Pieus Aqua Commercial Aquaculture and Aquaponics farm. Claria Sun Enterprises,  is a advanced and leading Hatchery facility breeding mainly Catfish and also some Tilapia, it is a subsidiary of La Pieus Aqua Holdings (Pty)Ltd which was founded by the young Aquapreneur – Rikalize Reinecke. 

In Aug 2017 she saw the growth in the market and envisioned that this will be come one of the major fish food sources for the exploding populations to come and decided to invest in building a highly advanced and intensely controlled hatchery for the breeding and production of Catfish Fingerlings. The Catfish hatchery was commissioned in 2018 to supply fingerlings to local farmers. The facility also supply fish as live feed to various other sectors in the country, like other farmers, zoo’s and universities.

The Sharptooth Catfish (Clarias Gariepinus) is an air breathing, fast growing fish suited to warm waters. Catfish farming in South Africa has enormous potential, but new aquaculture farmers need to have a good marketing plan before they start. One species, the Sharptooth Catfish, Clarias Gariepinus ticks all the boxes and is quite literally the worlds’ ultimate aquaculture species. It is therefore unsurprising that the global production of this species is growing extremely rapidly.
